DMV/MVA SERVICES

Personalized plates cost $10 per year and are paid in addition to vehicle registration and specialty plate fees. You can purchase a special license plate, with or without a personalized combination of characters.

The process is called registration or registration, and generally includes obtaining a title to the property in your name and license plates. It is generally carried out in a DMV (Virginia) office, which stands for “Department of Motor Vehicles” in English. or MVA Motor Vehicle Administration” in English.

To register cars at the DMV you must provide the following documents to register depending on your case.

 

If your car is new you must present:

  • The certificate of title or certificate of origin from the manufacturer/MCO as proof that you are the owner.
  • The sales invoice.
  • Proof of your car insurance policy.
  • Vehicle Registration Application.
  • Your driver’s license and number.
  • Proof that you reside in the county where you are registering your car.

If your car is used, you may have to present:

  • The certificate of title signed and completed by the former owner.
  • A bill of sale,
  • Previous registration documents.
  • An odometer disclosure statement.
  • The car’s license plates (if you plan to transfer the old license plates to the new vehicle)

If you are registering an out-of-state car in your current state, you may need to submit:

  • A VIN check/inspection done by a VIN inspector licensed by the state where you currently reside.
  • Out-of-state certificate of title and/or registration documentation.
  • Keep in mind that in certain states, depending on the age of your car, you must present the mileage information on the odometer.

If it is a third person who will register the car, you must present:
A form signed by the owner or a complete power of attorney (general power of attorney) in addition to the other documents mentioned above.
It is important that you know that any power of attorney must be notarized and be an original or a certified copy.

Requirements to obtain license plates in Maryland:

  • Driver’s license.
  • Maryland title.
  • Bill of Sale or Lien Release
  • Car insurance.
  • Complete form VR-005.
  • Maryland Vehicle Inspection Certificate
